October 24, 2025 — Alliance to Preserve the Finger Lakes and Southern Hills Wind Watch, Skaneateles, NY
Citizens against utility-scale wind and solar power generation plants will assemble in Skaneateles, NY, on November 1, 2025, at the Skaneateles Fire Barn from 2:00–4:00 p.m. to address New York State’s unrealistic climate goals and the reclaiming of home rule to protect our communities, farmland, woodlands, wetlands, pristine water bodies, and property values, and to prevent harm to our environment and ecosystems. Local elected representatives will be available to answer questions. The event is free to the public, and pre-registration is recommended.

Frustrated citizens against energy sprawl—and New Yorkers wanting to learn more about the environmental, fiscal, and political realities of utility-scale renewable energy projects confronting Madison, Cayuga, Cortland, and Onondaga counties, and communities across New York State—are invited to attend an informational session hosted by the Alliance to Preserve the Finger Lakes (Cayuga County) and Southern Hills Wind Watch (Onondaga County).

The Citizens Against Energy Sprawl Assembly will take place on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at the Skaneateles Fire Barn, 77 W. Genesee Street, Skaneateles, NY, from 2:00–4:00 p.m. This informational assembly is free to the public. Sponsoring groups will be accepting donations. Space is limited, and pre-registration is recommended by emailing help@AllianceToPreserveTheFingerLakes.com. Walk-ins will be admitted on a first-come, first-served basis.

New York State continues to trample rural communities with fast-tracked, industrial-scale “green” energy projects via the RAPID Act. The Department of Public Service (DPS) and Office of Renewable Energy Siting (ORES) speak falsely of community engagement, and every recent permitted project cites local laws as “burdensome.” Despite resolutions and moratoriums on thousands of acres of solar fields and dozens of wind turbines over 600 feet tall, towns have lost their voices and are rarely granted party status during the permit process. Albany has silenced municipalities and stripped away home rule afforded to citizens in the New York Constitution.

Many of these towns are not against renewable energy and support responsible, science-based, community-driven solutions. What these towns reject is the reckless and politically motivated process that sacrifices prime farmland, ecosystems, pristine waters, wildlife, health and safety, property values, and agri-tourism—all in the name of expediency to meet arbitrary climate goals. ORES continues to dismiss real environmental concerns and offers developers (many foreign nationals) a rubber stamp. There is no regard for public comment, and the voices of these communities have been silenced.

The Assembly will focus on protecting our communities from industrial energy plants, re-establishing home rule, and driving policy decisions grounded in science, not speed. These policy decisions recognize that intermittent and unreliable power generation—funded by New York taxpayers through NYSERDA, RECs, NYPA, and the Green Bank—correlates to higher utility rates. Presenters from Stop Energy Sprawl (a coalition of concerned parties across New York State) and several local grassroots organizations will speak on the real costs of utility-scale wind, solar, and battery energy storage to our environment. Elected officials will also be available to answer questions during the Assembly.
